Bremer Bay
Bremer Bay is in the Great Southern area of the South West region of Western Australia and is a coastal town between Albany and Esperance at the mouth of the Bremer River and is well known for the quality of its pet friendly accommodation. Bremer Bay is approximately 510 kilometres from Perth, and 180 kilometres east of Albany with a population of about 250 people with electricity supply generated by wind power. Bremer Bay boasts beautiful beaches, thus its popularity in the pet friendly accommodation category, with the main beach being only a short stroll from the shops. There is a marina at Fishery Beach which offers full boating facilities. The Bremer Bay Commonwealth Marine Reserve lies offshore. Bremer Bay was originally named Wellstead, but the local petition in 1951 was in favour of Bremer Bay. The change of name was approved and gazetted in 1962. In 2012, Bremer Bay was threatened by a dangerous bushfire and the fire burnt out 10,000 hectares of farmland and bushland, requiring 120 fire-fighters to bring it under control just outside the town.
