Pet Grooming through Potty Training

June 7, 2012

Maintaining a proper dental record, adopting prescribed veterinarian vaccination list and following desirable behavioral management skills are all part of the expected pet grooming areas you should follow to develop a loveable pet not only for yourself but for the entire community. Potty training comes as a natural behavioral skill that develops through consistent coaching and persistence of a pet owner. So, if you have been delaying potty training your dog for some time, than it is time to take action and teach him some house manners!

A potty trained dog or cat is easier to manage, keeps clean for longer periods of time and saves you the embarrassment in pet friendly cafes and pet friendly restaurants by doing IT himself away from the public area! You will be surprised how easily and naturally your pet will learn house training and adopt regular potty schedule. Animals follow instructions quite religiously IF they are consistently and persistently directed. The following tips will make potty training your pet all the more easier:

Prior Medical Examination:

It is advisable to have your puppy or dog medically examined before you begin his potty training. A proper potty grooming is possible if his kidney, bladder and overall digestive system functions smoothly. If not, you might end up frustrated without a potty trained dog.

Food Schedule:

Like humans, a healthy animal tends to follow timely bowl movements. All you have to do is time your pet’s food, snack and drink time.

Observation:

Like children, you would need to closely observe your pet’s body language and toilet timings. Does he urinate after a few minutes from drinking water or does he take longer? Observation will help you analyze his next course of action and will make potty training all the more easy for you.

Toilet Designation:

Allotting a potty area will teach your pet the knowledge that now he has a place to do his personal stuff. The area can be outside somewhere in the lawn or your very own house toilet section. Make sure the pet has full access to the designated toilet area so that he can go whenever need be. Also, accompany him to monitor he toilet stops on the designated area. If not direct him and make sure he uses only the area allocated, strictly. Grooming your pets behaviours can only be achieved if you give him clear cut instructions on and off and keep a close eye on his obedience. After a few days, your pet will naturally follow the order, you may have the odd accident for awhile, however they will decrease.

Introduce Outdoors:

It is advisable to make your pet familiar with the outdoor toilet training. This comes handy when you are not in house close to the toilet section. You may plan your own outdoor exercise or walk during the pet elimination period. In that way, the pet would familiarize himself with the outdoor potty routine.

Avoid Night Snacks:

The more you feed the dog before bedtime the more he would urinate in his bed. However, lessening his water and food intake late at night would automatically give him and you a peaceful night sleep without outdoor toilet trips.
Always reward your pet when he chooses the right place to go to the toilet. It will encourage fostering enviable pet grooming habits. You may reward him with his favorite snack or a loving hug.
