Pet Friendly services and destinations in Tasmania

If you are looking to travel around the beautiful and largely untouched natural wilderness of Tasmania with your whole family, including your pets, you are going to have to plan ahead, just like any other holiday where you are wanting to take along your pets as they are often not allowed into many parks or onto beaches.

Firstly you are going on holidays away from home, so you are going to need to look at securing the type of pet friendly accommodation in Tasmania that suits the needs of you, your family, your pets and the type of holiday accommodation that you may be looking for. That can vary of course, from staying in a tent or a cabin, right through to self contained units and hotels.

As is the case in most national parks across Australia, dogs and other pets are not allowed into Tasmania's national parks and conservation reserves, not even if you have them secure on a lead or even within your car, most of these types of parks even have a secure gate check point to make sure these rules are enforced.

Dogs, cats and other pets are however allowed in cars travelling on roads which pass through national parks, such as the Lyell Highway, but they are definately not allowed out of the car. Naturally, assistance dogs or dogs that provide support for people with disabilities, are an exception to the rules and are always allowed to accompany their handlers and owners, not only into national parks, but into all establishments and onto all forms of public transport.

There are many places throughout Tasmania outside of these national parks, where you are able to take your dogs, cats and other pets and there are some great pet friendly accommodation places in all corners of the state of Tasmania right near these parks, and you can find them easy these days with the assistance of the internet.

Forestry Tasmania reserves are managed for multiple uses and allow dogs and pets. Parts of Mt Wellington are managed by local councils and also allow and cater for pets. In the South and South-East you will find many reserves that allow you to bring your pets along and they include Lagoons Beach, Lake Leake, and many areas around Swansea and the Nine Mile Beach.

Then if you wish to explore the Northern region of the state and bring along your pets, you can include the Myrtle Park area, the Waterhouse Conservation area, the Saddleback Plantation, Ringarooma Coastal Reserve and several other great destinations that are happy to welcome you on your holiday with dogs, cats and many other special family members.

After you visit and experience, we would love to hear about it, so please come back and comment on our blog post here and share your thoughts.
